150 investors, 5,000 workers and five years of construction works

One of Romania's biggest energy projects, the over 1bn-eurohydropower station of Tarniţa-Lăpuşteşti, is taking its first stepsafter the Economy Ministry this summer started selecting investorsand setting up the project company.

Those preparing the details related to starting constructionworks say that next year the investor due to come up with the moneytogether with Hidroelectrica for construction works involving 5,000people to start is likely to be selected. So far, the list ofinterested parties includes 150 names.

This is the only major project in the hydro-energy field afterthe Revolution for which works are likely to start in the followingyears.

The necessity of such a construction, due to have a 1,000MWcapacity, higher than that of a reactor of Cernavodă nuclear powerstation, comes as Romanian authorities plan to set up another twonuclear reactors, but also amid the high number of wind energyprojects underway.
