230 Romanians broker acquisitions worth 13bn dollars for P&G

American giant P&G makes 13 billion dollars' worth ofacquisitions, from pens and laptops to raw material used for itsoperations in around 150 locations, from an office with 230employees in Bucharest.

Therefore, every employee working in P&G's ProcurementCenter in Bucharest has the responsibility of brokering 56 milliondollars in transactions per year on average, making up about aquarter of P&G's sales in Romania.

The pressure to make the business more efficient has persuadedincreasingly more big companies to centralise their procurement andaccounting services by opening regional offices in emergingcountries that offer the advantage of low labour costs.

"This year we expect to process acquisitions worth 13 billiondollars, one billion euros more than in 2009. The Bucharest officeprocesses acquisitions made in 150 companies within P&G inEurope, the Middle East, and Africa," said Yasser Abdelnalek,manager of P&G Procurement Center in Bucharest. The servicescentre, opened in 2005, has 145 P&G employees and 90subcontractors.
