Flamingo and K-Tech close behind HP

The Romanian computer market is dominated in terms of total number of units sold by Hewlett-Packard, followed closely by Flamingo (just 0.2% behind in terms of market share) and by K-Tech, 0.4% behind first position. These are the results found by the American research company IDC, which completed the annual study regarding the local computer market. Moreover, local brands outsold the foreign ones in the desktop category, which are the best selling computers in Romania. 607,567 computers were sold last year (desktops, notebooks, x86 servers) compared to the 438,953 units sold in 2004. Of all categories (desktop, notebook, x86 server), Hewlett-Packard last year sold 68,647 units, followed by Flamingo with 67,485 units, and closely behind, by K-Tech with 66,121 units. Romanians prefer local brands when acquiring a desktop computer, with the first four out of five top positions being filled by Romanian brands: K-Tech (with a 12.8% market share), Flamingo Computers (12.7%), Complet Electro Serv (11.8%) and Romsoft (11.1%). The first foreign brand in the ranking comes only fifth, with a 9.5% market share. ZF
