Nuclearelectrica sees business down, posts tens of millions of euros in losses

Nuclearelectrica, one of the most important energy producers inRomania, which operates the two reactors of the Cernavodă nuclearplant slipped into the red in the first half of the year, eventhough it posted operating income.
Therefore, according to the financial data, the company posted192.2 million RON (46.3 million euro) losses in the first sixmonths of 2010, compared with a gross profit worth 108.6 millionRON (25.6 million euros) in the first half of 2009.
"The gross income of the first half of 2010 is negative and was dueto the financial loses as a result of the depreciation of the RONagainst the other currencies and to the booking - as required bythe law, of the unfavourable exchange rate differences for all theloans taken throughout the investment in the Reactor 2 of thenuclear power station," the representatives of the company explain.Therefore, even though the operating income was 43.7 million RON(10.5 million euros), three times lower than in the first sixmonths of 2009, the financial losses stood at some 236 million RON(about 57 million euros), almost six times higher than in the firsthalf of last year.
The turnover varied only slightly during the period considered,from 737.1 million RON (174.2 million euros) to 716.9 million RON(172.9 million euros).
