Romania has weakest education system in EU

The Romanian education system is one of the weakest in Europeand the weakest in the European Union, which is proven byinternational tests, President Traian Basescu said yesterday at adebate on the education law held in Parliament, which was alsoattended by Education Minister Daniel Funeriu.
"The Romanian education system is the weakest in the EU in terms ofgraduates' performance. This is proven not only by experts'analyses, but also by European tests," Basescu said. He added nochange had been made to the Romanian education system, it had beenmerely "patched up". "If anyone claims to have been a reformer ofthe education system over the last 20 years, show them the resultsof this reform: increasingly poorly prepared pupils, with less andless chances of being competitive on the labour market," Basescuadded.
The Government is preparing a new education law, after theeducation law adopted in 2009 was declared unconstitutional. Thenew draft law is to be sent to Parliament after Easter.
