Margarine producer Royal Brinkers Romania changed its name to Orkla Foods Productie (Orkla Foods Production), after the company was taken over by Norwegian group Orkla by means of a transaction completed last December. Orkla Foods Romania and the parent company based in Norway, Orkla Foods AS took over Royal Brinkers in a deal worth 18.4 million euros. In the wake of the takeover, Orkla Foods Romania owns 99.9% in Royal Brinkers Romania, while Orkla Foods AS holds 0.01%. Orkla Foods Romania also took over the distribution company of the margarine producer for a price agreed on of 2.1 million euros, acquiring 51% of the company's share capital. Before the takeover, Orkla and Royal Brinkers were two of the leading margarine producers on the Romanian market. Orkla also produces and sells other foods, like ketchup, mustard, tomato paste, mayonnaise and fruit jam. The Norwegian group entered the Romanian market in 2002 through the acquisition of Topway Food, and in 2004 took over pate producer Ardealul, based in Covasna.
