The resignation of Ruxandra Brutaru, general manager of Romanianflagship carrier Tarom last week, has failed to prompt an officialresponse from the Transportation Ministry to explain who will takeover from April 1st, or what will happen next with the stateairline. Although Brutaru leaves her position for a lower, yetbetter-paid position as deputy manager of Tarom in one week, thereis as yet no replacement for her.

"For the time being we are looking for someone to take over asTarom manager. Mrs. Brutaru resigned for personal reasons, this iswhat is written in her resignation letter. For more information, ask her," Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said yesterday, after aconference on a project on training women who work in thetransportation industry. Asked why Brutaru is staying on in thecompany's management team, but as deputy manager, Boagiu said: "Idon't judge people, I judge principles".

"The deputy general managers of Tarom are not appointed by orderof the Transportation and Infrastructure Ministry. Ruxandra Brutaruwas hired based on an individual employment contract at Tarom asdeputy general manager until her appointment as general manager,"is the answer provided by Tarom representatives to ZF's query as towho makes decisions to appoint deputies within the state airline. They specified that as of the date when she ceases to be a generalmanager, Brutaru will automatically return to her previousposition, but did not say who would replace Brutaru or what wouldhappen to the person currently holding that position.
