Lufkin, the Texan company with $500m turnover in oil and energyindustry equipment and services, may invest about 300 milliondollars in the industrial equipment sector, market sources say. Theinformation comes after a meeting between Economy minister AdrianVideanu and the US Ambassador in Bucharest, Mark Gitenstein, whenrepresentatives of the Economy Ministry said that many Americancompanies were interested in the Romanian market and "a newAmerican company should shortly invest 300 million dollars in thefield of industrial equipment in Romania," without providingfurther details.
"Talks are not that advanced. The company is Lufkin, a Texancompany specialising in equipment for the petroleum and gasindustry, as well as the energy industry. A state aid is beingdiscussed as was the case with Ford," market sources said.
Other market sources say that a Lufkin team has recently visitedPloiesti in search of a plot of land for a potential investment.
