Florentin Banu: Those who say they are doing well in this time are lying

13.04.2009, 15:30 15

Businessman Florentin Banu, who developed Artima supermarket network and the Joe wafers brand, says the business he runs, mainly centred around real estate development, has stagnated, with part of the employees being made redundant lately. "We are trying to keep afloat. Those who say they are doing well in this time are lying," says Florentin Banu, shareholder of Banuinvest group, which includes Banuconstruct (real estate projects), Interpart Production (plastic parts) and Banusport (sporting complex). The businessman laid off 70 employees at the beginning of the year and now employs 135 staff at the three Banu-branded companies. "The worst thing a manager can do is make good staff redundant. I have had to let 70 staff go. There are 50 employees left at Banu Construct, 70 at Interpart Production and 15 at Banu Sport," adds the businessman. Banu says he could put off works on the third real estate project in the city of Timisoara, which will include 300-350 apartments, and which was initially scheduled to start in 2008.
