The medical equipment market, an annual business worth over ahundred million euros, fell by around 35-40% this year according toestimates by GE Healthcare, one of the leading players in thesector.
"At this time one can notice a decline in demand in the privatesector. Among the explanations are the decline in the funders' riskappetite, which shows in expensive funding offers, at least whencompared against the 2007-2008 period, the rise in the risk profileof operators because of the decline in revenues, as well as thetechnological depreciation and lower appetite for developmentbecause of cash flow problems," said Radu Lupu-Gorduza, GEHealthcare zone manager for Romania and the Republic ofMoldova.
GE Healthcare posted over 20 million euros in sales last year onthe Romanian market, both directly through General Electric MedicalSystems Romania SRL, and through other commercial partners.
On the medical equipment market, estimated at over 150 millioneuros, GE Healthcare competes with Siemens and Philips.
