Summer season starts with decline for Copos

George Copos, one of the best-known Romanian businesspersons,controlling several hotels on the Romanian market, registered 1.35mRON (314,000 euros) revenues at Europa four-star hotel in EforieNord, down 5.5% in RON from a year ago. "This June, the hotel'soccupancy rate reached 67.5%, from 71.6% a year ago," stated GeorgeCopos. While resorts like Mamaia, Mangalia or Navodari had fewertourists in the first summer month, Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud hadthree times more tourists on average per day. Whereas APDL(Association for Promotion and Development of the Romanian Seaside)data show the number of tourists accommodated in Eforie Nord andSud was higher this June, hotels saw only 50% occupancy rate, giventhat the two resorts' can accommodate a total of 10,803. Europahotel, operating 221 rooms, is the only four-star hotel of EforieNord. The price per night of a double room, including breakfast,stands at 114 euros. The hotel generated turnover worth almost10.4m RON (2.5m euros) in 2009. "The hotel saw its occupancy ratefall as a result of the crisis that started becoming visible in2009, particularly on the conference and leisure segments," saidthe hotel's officials.
