13.8m euros in Phare financing

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests (MAAP) has secured almost the entire available financing through the Phare 2000 programme by the November 30, 2002 deadline, under projects totalling 13.8 million euros, that is 96% of the entire allocated amount. According to the MAAP minister, 92% of the total four million euros allocated to the "Support for the agricultural policy and co-ordination" have been contracted. Out of the 2.55m euros set aside for the "Consolidation of farming products quality control systems," 96% were nailed down, while the "Consolidation and development of the capacity to enforce the acquis communautaire regulations covering protection against harmful micro-organisms," will benefit from 1.86 million euros of the total two million euros. The "Consolidation of the Romanian veterinary administration's central and regional capacity in view of bringing the veterinary norms in line with EU standards" had four million euros allocated, with the Agriculture Ministry contracting 98% of the total, while the harmonisation of the winemaking legislation and acquis administration capacity will see 1.98 million euros spent out of the total two million.
