Accor Hotels Romania is hiring 190 people for the four-star Novotel hotel located on Calea Victoriei, set to open this summer, says Frederik Deman, marketing manager with the company.
Frederik Deman, a Belgian, 36, has been the company''s marketing manager since March 1st, 2006. "We want to hire 190 people, in all the levels it takes to operate a professional hotel," says Deman.
In this context, Accor will become one of the biggest employers on the Bucharest hotel segment.
Deman says management positions have already been filled.
"At this moment, 111 positions have been filled and we will be organising another recruitment drive this week," Deman also said.
Novotel is the first investment Accor made on its own on the Romanian market and the first such investment by an international hotel chain. The four-star hotel will be opened this July after investment worth 39 million euros. A high number of players in the domestic tourism industry are finding it difficult to lure skilled personnel to fill positions in Romanian hotels. Most employees in this sector prefer going abroad, where, for the same duties they get much higher salaries.
"We are aware that many people prefer going abroad. The salaries we are going to offer are within the trend of the domestic market. Being promoted and working with an international brand hotel are certainly alluring for employees," considers Deman. According to him, Accor plans to affiliate another six to eight hotels in the main cities with a good potential for business, as well as in Romania''s touristic areas.
Accor Hotels Romania, is 100% held by Accor Hotels Belgium, and its share capital is worth 1.75 million RON (around 500,000 euros).
The managers of the recently set up company are Andre Roger Cantiniaux, Accor chain''s manager for South-Eastern Europe and Ileana Preda, who previously worked as a financial manager with Accor Services, one of the main providers of luncheon vouchers in Romania. Novotel hotel will be located on Calea Victoriei, with 259 rooms, a 300-seat saloon, eight conference halls, a fitness centre with an indoor pool and stores.
Novotel stands in the close vicinity of major players on the luxury hotel market of Bucharest, namely the Hilton, the Continental and the Bucuresti hotels. The representative of the hotel says he is not concerned about the tight competition that has emerged in this area of Bucharest.
Meanwhile, Bruno Vinette, the general manager of the four star Sofitel hotel, has estimated that the opening of the Novotel and Radisson SAS hotels in the centre of the city, as well as those in Baneasa - three Ramada hotels, is likely to harm the hotel''s occupancy rate and business by 10%.
