24.05.2007, 20:20 7

Drug producer Actavis, one of the top ten players on the world market of generic drugs (equivalent to the patent drugs, produced after the licence of the patent drugs expires, and which have the same therapeutic characteristics), will start a 50 million-euro investment this autumn, in the construction of a production facility close to Bucharest. Actavis is the first international player on the drug market to announce a greenfield investment in the domestic production of drugs. Actavis has been present in Romania, since last year through the 147.5 million euro acquisition of Sindan Bucuresti, the biggest producer of cancer drugs. "The facility resulting from the first stage of investments is to become operational in 2009," stated Jonas Tryggvason, Actavis' executive vice-president for Central and Eastern Europe and also Asia. The production facility will be built in the form of modules, in order to allow for further expansion, with 50 million euros being allocated for the first stage of development.
