After Holland, Flamingo makes move on Yugoslavia

20.08.2001, 00:00 9

True to its policy of expansion to the Balkans and Eastern Europe, Flamingo Computers has recently launched operations in Yugoslavia. The Flamingo Computers Yugoslavia d.o.o. subsidiary is entirely held by Flamingo International SA.

Flamingo Computers Yugoslavia accounts for an initial investment of about 150,000 dollars, while the group's management estimates that the subsidiary will derive turnover of 3.5 million dollars in its first year of activity.

The Yugoslav market has many opportunities for investors, while Flamingo Computers benefits from a particularly strong logistic consolidation in this region, due to its operations based in Bucharest, in Giurgiu free area, and near Belgrade (namely the Budapest-based office and warehouse and the Flamingo subsidiary and warehouse located in Timisoara).

These were in fact the reasons why the Belgrade subsidiary was opened, according to a company release.

Flamingo is also present in the former Yugoslav space through its Croatia and Macedonia subsidiaries, which were both incorporated by the group last year. The company also holds offices in Hungary, the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria.

Last month, Flamingo International dedicated another subsidiary, the sixth office located outside Romania and the first on European Union territory, at Alblasserdam, Holland. Flamingo Computers Holland B.V. is entirely held by Flamingo International SA and is located in an industrial park in Alblasserdam, near Rotterdam, Dordrecht and other Dutch cities featuring intense logistic activity.

Flamingo International has recently announced it had signed an East-European distribution agreement with Western Digital company, aimed at Bulgaria, Hungary, Macedonia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Yugoslavia. Consequently, Flamingo International will provide its business partner with sound regional coverage, as Western Digital has maintained a low profile in this area so far.

"We are thrilled to have Flamingo International as part of our family of Western Digital distributors, not only due to Flamingo Computers' regional coverage, but also because Flamingo focuses on high quality for the services and products it provides to its clients," said David M. Sanford, Western Digital Sales Manager for Eastern & Southern Europe.

Western Digital Corporation is a leader on the market of hard disks for desktop and home-entertainment systems. Western Digital was established in 1970 and started making hard disks in 1988.

"I am sure that the near future will prove that this agreement was a wise decision for both parties," said Marius Ghenea, head of the Management Board of Flamingo Computers.

Flamingo Group last year made turnover worth 30 million dollars, estimating for 2001 turnover totaling 50 million dollars. For the 2002-2004 interval, Flamingo hopes to exceed 160 million dollars in turnover, international sales included, to cover the entire Eastern region and to expand on other markets.
