21.08.2007, 19:12 18

Agricola International Bacau, one of the main domestic manufacturers of poultry products, registered a turnover worth 127.1m RON (38.1m euros) in the first six months of this year, up 20% against the same period last year, and a net profit of 720,000 RON (216,000 euros), more than 80% higher than the level registered in the first six months of 2006. "We consider the upward trend in terms of turnover and net income will also continue into the second half of 2007. We are counting on market growth and our investment programme, which we are carrying out over this period," stated Gheorghe Antochi, chairman with the Agricola Bacau group of firms. This year, the producer will operate investments worth 12.4m euros, which includes 2.8m euros Sapard co-financing, with the sum primarily directed at the modernisation of production capacities. Agricola Bacau plans to gradually reverse the weight of sales of refrigerated and frozen products amid a shift in Romanian consumers' tastes. As a result, frozen products are expected to weigh 20% in overall sales by late 2009, a decrease from 80% at present.
