Pitesti-based furniture manufacturer Alprom, one of the leading players in the furniture industry, posted a 79.4 million-RON (22.3 million-euro) turnover last year, 2% up in RON against 2005, according to the companyes preliminary results. Alpromes gross profit increased by over 10% last year, to 925,000 RON (260,000 euros), according to the same report. The Pitesti-based company is, together with 12 other companies, part of the Alprom group, which is involved in the production of timber, semi-finished goods and furniture, constructions, transport, production and the sale of varnish and diluents. Alprom representatives have not, as yet, provided information on the groupes cumulated turnover. Dumitru Petcu, general manager of the group, however, mentioned that the profit margin for the whole group would be lower for 2006 against the previous year. "The sums that Romanians have available for shopping have gone down, while the cost of utilities has increased," says Petcu. Another reason behind a lower profit margin for 2006 is the devaluation of the euro, which has mainly affected deliveries to the foreign markets.
