Average banking salary no longer exceeds 1,000 euros

The net average salary in the banking system saw a sudden fall in June, after reaching an all-time high in May, while recruitment continued at a high rate. The 69,241 employees in the banking sector had a net average salary of 2,970 RON (816 euros), almost 20% less than in June. The net average salary in the system had undergone other monthly corrections during the last few years, but less significant ones. In June, the salary was back to the December 2005 value, in nominal terms. In May, the salary climbed to almost 3,700 RON. In fact, the net average salary has followed a sinuous trend over the last year, and increased towards 3,700 RON (a little over 1,000 euros) in the months when bonuses are paid, while the lower limit stands at 2,800 RON. For example, at the beginning of the year, the monthly income fell towards 2,800 RON, after it climbed to 3,500 RON in December 2007.
