BCR Leasing: Market up 40% in H1 to 2.9bn euros

11.08.2008, 18:28 8

Amid the very slow increase in car sales, leasing companies have shifted their focus towards commercial vehicles and equipment funding. The leasing market reached 2.9 billion euros in the first half of the year, 40% above the level registered during the same time last year, estimates Claudiu Stanescu, general manager of BCR Leasing, the second-largest player on the market. This growth rate shows that leasing was only slightly affected by the increasingly slow growth of car funding, which accounts for the bulk of funding granted. Many companies switched their focus towards funding for commercial vehicles and equipment in order to preserve the growth rates of the last few years. This is the first half-year estimate to be published, with the coming few weeks to see the release of official data from the Financial Companies Association in Romania, the professional association of non-banking financial institutions, which centralises data sent by leasing companies members.
