BGS negotiates acquisition of US security company

09.12.2008, 17:02 35

The BGS group, controlled by the Oprea family, is negotiating the acquisition of a security company in New York, in a transaction estimated at around 4 million dollars, considering that the financial crisis in the USA has significantly reduced the value of American companies. "In the USA everything is for sale due to the financial crisis. I will go to New York by the end of the year to make an assessment of the company, which has a similar activity with our own, in order to see how sound the company is. We already have a company in the USA, called BGS American Systems, which supplies police dogs to the New York police, and we are thinking of expanding our activity there," Bogdan Oprea, BGS president. According to him, the American company has around 250 employees and big enough contracts, but has declined to offer further information for the time being. The company's shareholders want to expand aggressively in the next few years on the Romanian market, as well, with the target for the next few years being to tap into 20 cities, from the 11 it is currently operating on. "Our target for next year is for our security division to reach a 30 million-euro turnover, up 50% against 2008, with the number of break-ins up amid crisis," explains Oprea.
