Borsec producer expects coffee sales to double

09.06.2006, 00:00 11

The producer of Borsec mineral water and of Giusto soft drinks estimates that the Metropolitan Caffe brand will generate sales worth four million euros this year, twice as much as last year. "For now, we are trying to make room for ourselves on the market. Then we will follow the same expansion strategy that we implemented for our water and soft drinks products. For this same reason, we are not exporting coffee yet. There''s barely enough of it for the Romanian market," said Octavian Cretu, president of Romaqua. Metropolitan coffee is roasted and packaged in the processing facility that Romaqua owns in Bucharest. The Metropolitan range is made up both of ground coffee and of whole bean coffee. As for the amounts of soft drinks to be sold this year, Romaqua estimates a volume of some 125 million litres. The re-launched brands Brifcor and Quick Cola will account for 20% of this volume. "The idea to re-launch these soft drinks came from the original drinks, which were sold before 1989 and which were very much in demand during those days. We thought they might catch on today, too," Octavian Cretu added. ZF
