Chinese-based BYD Electronics, an established Nokia supplier, will start production in Jucu, Cluj-county, in November, and plans to produce around 3 million plastic cases for mobile phones each year. For the time being, the local branch of the group, BYD Electronics Romania, is still waiting for a permit in order to start works on the production facility, according to sources close to the project. Works are scheduled to finish in October, whilst production will start in November, after an investment worth over 20 million euros. The production facility, located in the Tetarom III Industrial Park, will be built on an 11.6-hectare plot. The ground floor will house production activities, while the offices and cafeteria will be located on the first floor. Currently, BYD Electronics Romania is involved in a personnel recruitment campaign for the Jucu production facility on specialised websites. The jobs advertised include production engineer, project manager, accountant and quality engineer. According to Nokia officials, the company's Chinese supplier will hire around 2,000 staff in total. Officials of BYD Electronics Romania did not wish to comment on the Jucu investment. The Chinese company produces a full range of mobile telephone components, IT components, such as batteries, LCDs, LCMs, and also automotive components.
