Caremil shifts focus to domestic market

26.07.2007, 18:48 5

Roman-based Caremil, a producer in the textile industry, which will provide the outfits for the women's team at the Olympic Games in Beijing, is shifting its sales focus towards the domestic market, as a result of the appreciation of the national currency against the euro. From a production of just 1% destined for the domestic market in 2005, the company will deliver as much as 40% of its domestic production onto the Romanian market this year, says Sorin Chiriac, general manager of the company. "Up until two years ago, 99% of production was destined for exports. We are hoping that by the end of the year, the share of sales in Romania will reach 40% of the total. Exports are no longer something profitable, unless you export your own brand," says Chiriac. The depreciation of the euro also prompted an approximately 15% increase in the prices of products delivered onto foreign markets, which led to some collaborations being terminated, explains the manager of Caremil.
