Carrefour, the biggest hypermarket network in terms of sales on the market, is to invest around 5 million euros in refurbishing the former Univers'All store in the centre of Bucharest. So far, the French retailer has recruited around half the necessary employees for its hypermarket, according to statements made by representatives of Carrefour Romania. The company will hire around 300 people in total for its fifth store in the Capital scheduled to open this summer. At present the Carrefour network rents the building previously occupied by the former Univers'All store, with a retail area of 3,600 square metres. Businessman Razvan Petrovici, who formerly controlled the Univers'All stores, decided to close the network last year amid the aggressive expansion of international retailers and with debts to suppliers piling up. Carrefour Romania, which currently operates 7 stores, intends to open another 3 hypermarkets in the second half of this year. Two will be located in Iasi and one in Cluj-Napoca, with a 20 million-euro investment in each store. This year, the company will hire over 2,000 people in order to sustain its network expansion, with around 600 employees to be recruited next year for each new store.
