With higher prices, a poor supply of just 220 firms, that is 40%of the total number of 2008 participants, and without the leadersof Romanian retail, Mobexpert, IKEA, kika or the biggest woodindustry players, Kronospan, Egger or Holzindustrie Schewinghofer, this is how the International Furniture and Wood Products startedat Romexpo yesterday.

After 2009, when domestic consumption declined by 15%, and bothproduction and exports and imports had a similar trend, companiespresent at the fair say they have not exited the crisis, yet, andthis will not happen before they reach the 2008 level.
On the other hand, authorities' representatives at the openingyesterday spoke on an optimist tone about the 8% productionincrease in the first six months of the year and the 12% exportjump in the same period.
"The rising production and exports entitle us to believe thefurniture sector could help the Romanian economy rebound. Thepick-up on some Western export markets could bring this year'sproduction close to the record level of 2007," said Sorin Dimitriu,vice-president with Romania's Chamber of Commerce andIndustry.
