11.06.2003, 00:00 9

Packaging maker MJ Maillis logged 130% higher net profit in real terms for Q1, compared with the same time last year, that is 4.4bn ROL. The profit growth was higher than the increase in turnover. Maillis' Q1 sales totalled 76bn ROL ($2.3 million), 70% more than the 45bn ROL in the corresponding period of last year. The export growth is one of the top goals of the packaging maker, which sees it as a means to boost profits. MJ Maillis Romania is one of the top competitors on the secondary packaging market, estimated to $25-$30 million. Most competitors here operate through dealers, while the Greeks are one of the few companies on the market actually running productive operations in Romania. MJ Maillis has a factory in Buftea and distribution centres in Cluj, Timisoara and Iasi. The company's strategy is to provide complex packaging solutions, which also includes making packing machines. It estimates to invest 4.3 million euros, 2 million euros of which scheduled for investment this year. ZF
