Drogerie Markt, the local branch of the Austrian network of cosmetics and consumer goods stores Drogerie Markt (DM), will double its number of employees by the end of the year, after it launches two discount-based "outlet stores" in the shopping galleries next to Real hypermarkets in Bucharest and Galati. "Up until a month ago, we had just six employees in Romania. This number has increased to thirty virtually overnight, and we expect to double this figure by the end of the year," says Milan Radin, general manager of the Drogerie Markt network. Internationally, the company has around 27,000 employees in over 1,800 stores in Central and Eastern Europe. Drogerie Markt is already present in Romania with one 230 square-metre store in Timisoara. "We want all our stores to be located in areas with a high volume of pedestrian traffic, in malls, shopping boulevards and on the ground floor of stores with large window displays," explains Radin. Milan Radin came to the helm of the Romanian branch in April, which makes Romania the fifth country he has worked in, after France, the US, Austria and Serbia. "I fled Romania when I was 15, before the revolution, but I have always wanted to come back to my native city with a successful company. Romania is a country with huge economic potential," says Radin.
