Europe's largest developer of satellite navigation software (GPS), Route 66, will hire 150 programmers for its Brasov-based centre, which it opened in 2005, in the wake of a five million-euro investment. The company currently has 87 employees and posted 2.4 million euros in turnover last year.
"We need staff because we still have a lot of projects underway for Nokia and Samsung," Liviu Cristescu, general manager of Route 66's Romanian subsidiary, told ZF.
Although this year the company's recruitment plan entails hiring a large number of staff, 150, Route 66 representatives say they would like to hire even more people, but programmers are still hard to find. The company is looking for C, C++ and Java language programmers.
"We would like to hire even more staff, because we have many projects this year, but I don't think it will be possible. There is still a shortage on the market, and very skilled specialists already have jobs. We are also willing to hire young people with no experience. We are mainly interested in graduates with good marks or good results in academic competitions," explains Cristescu.
According to the ads posted on recruitment websites, Route 66 offers relocation premiums for those who do not live in Brasov, as well as luncheon vouchers and free access to sporting facilities.
According to Cristescu, the salaries of programmers in the company have been adjusted to the euro exchange rate and to inflation, with the employees additionally receiving a 10% wage increase. Senior programmers can make 2,000 euros on average per month.
The human resources market is expected to be very tough this year, with many companies making personnel cuts, but for some positions - programming jobs, for instance, many top ranking companies, such as IBM, HP and Ubisoft, continue to have openings in Romania.
