Turkish Efes Breweries International (EBI) will sell its entire 49.99% stake in the Interbrew Efes Brewery Ploiesti factory for an estimated 20.79 million euros to InBev, EBI announced. The factory is a joint venture held 50%-50% by InBev and Efes. EBI''s majority shareholder, Anadolu Efes Biracilik ve Malt Sanayi will transfer 0.01% in the factory in Ploiesti to InBev as part of this deal. The sale of the shares will be finalised shortly, an EBI release shows. The brewery in Ploiesti, which makes Efes and Caraiman beer brands, became operational in 1998, with the investment made by EBI. The business was restructured in 2000, when it became a joint venture, following the transfer of 50% to InBev, based on an agreement for cooperation on the production business. The production in Ploiesti generated 4% of Efes Breweries'' revenues in 2005. EBI''s sales in Romania accounted for 7% of the total sales of the company in the first quarter of this year, 1.6 million hectolitres. At the same time, revenues from the Romanian market contributed 3% to the total revenues of the group, 86.8 million dollars. The gross profit of EBI, which is present on the markets of Russia, Kazakhstan, Serbia and Montenegro, Romania and Moldova stood at 38.1 million dollars in the first three months of the year, up 9% on the same time of 2005.
