Frozen vegetables, the champion of food distributors

16.02.2007, 21:06 13

The frozen vegetables market, estimated at over 25 million euros, can generate up to a 100% increase in the sales of food products, while at the same time becoming increasingly attractive to big retailers. There are very few producers of frozen vegetables operating on the local market, and only one of them, Tulcea-based Frigorifer, has local production facilities. The rises of up to 100%, seen in the last few years, could, however, attract more investors to this sector. The market is estimated at about 15,000 tonnes a year. "Our frozen vegetables sales saw a more than double increase last year compared with 2006. The main factors were the growth of the local vegetable market, the investments we have made in freezing-related logistics, the consolidation of the market position of the main brand distributed, Bonduelle, as well as the increase in our product varieties," stated Gabriela Simion, sales manager and partner of distribution company Serpico, a distributor for Bonduelle, Oerlemans Foods
and F&F Champignons. She estimates an over 100% increase in company sales this year, on the frozen vegetables sector, indicated by the rise seen by the company in the first month of this year.
