German producer hires 400 people to work for Audi and VW in Brasov

Germany's car parts producer Preh invested 3m euros in a plant in Brasov, which is set to reach 400 employees in two years. The investment is operated at a time when the car industry is undergoing production facility and personnel restructuring worldwide. The company's manager, Mihaela Forgaciu, who worked for 14 years with Draxlmaier Romania, says the plant due to be opened next week targets 20m-euro turnover for 2010, five times higher than the figure forecast for 2009. "Markets are rebounding and the main customer is VW. The group now has 30% more orders from VW than the initial contract, for medium-class models, of course. Problems in the industry are now affecting the upper classes," explained Forgaciu. Preh, with turnover worth above 300m euros in 2008, owns plants in North America, Germany, Portugal and Romania and will produce control systems mainly for Audi and VW. The company rented a production facility, whose construction cost 7m euros, in Brasov and the first production lines were transferred from Germany.
