Gigabyte sets up camp in Bucharest

02.12.2004, 00:00 9

Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte has announced it is to open a branch of its company in Romania, continuing its expansion into Eastern Europe. "The Romanian office has existed, legally speaking, since November, but will become 100% operational as of December 1 (yesterday)," Gigabyte's chief executive in Romania, Alexandru Ticea, told Ziarul Financiar. Gigabyte is the world number two motherboard maker after Asus, another Taiwanese manufacturer. A motherboard is the main component of a computer, which houses other parts such as the microprocessor, video card, and sound card. Gigabyte began expansion into Eastern Europe back in September 2003 by opening an office in Poland. In 2004, it opened offices in the Czech Republic, Serbia and Montenegro, and Turkey. A number of major IT companies such as Intel and Dell have opened offices in Romania over the last eighteen months. ZF
