Grup Feroviar Roman (GFR), the leader on the Romanian private market of railway goods transportation, has acquired the leading Serbian coachbuilder and repair company, Zelvoz Smederevo. "Last week, the consortium made up of Remar Pascani and Grapmet became the designated winner of the tender to purchase the biggest rolling stock repair and construction company in Serbia, Zelvoz Smederevo," GFR representatives told ZF. GFR is the majority shareholder of Remar Pascani holding a 90% stake and is also part of the Grampet group, which includes companies such as Turist Semenic - involved in tourism, Reva Simeria - dealing with coach repair and construction works, and Rovit - operators in the wine industry. Grampet's main shareholders are Adriana Didila, Vasile Raducan and Gruia Stoica, from Galati county, according to the Trade Registry (ONRC). Zelvoz Smederevo posted revenues worth 6.1 million euros in 2005, alongside losses of 1.75 million euros, according to the online version of the Polish publication, Railway Market. GFR intends to expand onto the domestic and international markets in the coming period and is also considering future acquisitions. "If our development needs require it, we will make acquisitions, either domestically or abroad," said Vasile Didila, shareholder and president of GFR's board of directors. GFR started its acquisitions on the local market in 2004 by buying a majority 90% stake in Remar Pascani.
