Insurance companies experience changes at the top

21.11.2007, 20:35 16

Two changes have recently occurred in the management teams of life insurance companies AIG Romania and Omniasig Life. Mihai Lucanu, 31, manager of the Casualty and Financial Lines division of AIG Romania, has been recruited by the Australian group QBE, while Fanel Plopeanu stepped down from his position as general manager of Omniasig Life. Lucanu, is now underwriting manager of the local branch of QBE, which will soon enter the market, after it notified the Insurance Supervision Commission of its intention to sell policies in Romania. Lucanu worked at AIG Romania for 8 years, and most recently was in charge of casualty insurance and transport insurance. His tasks have been taken over by Mihnea Tobescu, the company's general manager, and by Ancuta Vacareanu. Similarly to AIG Romania, QBE will operate on the corporate segment and provide insurance exclusively to companies. In 2006, AIG Romania saw gross underwritten premiums worth around 22.3 million euros and a net profit of 0.4 million euros. Another change at the top witnessed by an insurance company is the departure of Fanel Plopeanu from the position of general manager of Omniasig Life. "It was an amicable parting. Now I am taking a break, and I have a project I want to carry out, also in the insurance field," he explained.
