The new flights TAROM has introduced to Valencia, Madrid or Bologna this yea r bolstered the company's revenues from regular flights abroad by 25% to around 110m euros (148m dollars) in the first half of this year against the similar period of 2006. "The substantial traffic increases were helped by the newly introduced flights. Spain and Italy are two important markets for TAROM. In Spain, we hold a significant market share and in Italy we want to rebound by tackling new destinations," said Sorin Georgescu, executive vice president of marketing & sales with TAROM. TAROM, the biggest air carrier on the domestic market, last year generated turnover worth 230m euros and has budgeted a similar value for this year, but the projections are likely to be topped given H1 results. The positive results registered by TAROM are also reflected by the level of traffic, which went up by around 27% on domestic and foreign routes. Thus, the company has upwardly revised its estimates for this year, to 1.8 million carried passengers, from 1.4 million passengers, the initial forecast. The biggest traffic increase, 45%, was registered on domestic flights even though they do not account for too much in the overall flights. Thus, on domestic routes, the company transported approximately 180,000 passengers during the January-June period. Given this increase, the company's representatives are considering the introduction of new flights, but the number of available aircraft is still low.
