LaborMed invests in its own production facility

09.05.2007, 18:15 15

LaborMed Pharma, one of the biggest local drug producers, has invested 13 million euros in its own production facility in Bucharest, an investment that will triple the production capacity to 1.5 billion doses a year. The money needed for the new plant comes from the reinvestment of profit (7 million euros) and from a credit from the BRD (6 million euros). Prior to this investment, the company's production was conducted at two rented locations, both in the capital. "We wanted to invest in our own production facility. Our lease contracts did not allow us to purchase the rented space. Pharmaceutical production standards have increased since our emergence on the market as a producer, therefore even if we could have acquired the space, it would have been difficult to adapt to the new construction-related standards," stated Xeni-Camelia Dicu, general manager of LaborPharma. Currently, LaborMed Pharma is the only Top 20 player in the industry whose shareholders are individuals.
