FMCG distributor Lekkerland Convenience, one of the top ten companies on the local market, posted sales worth 54 million euros last year, up by around 74% against 2006, according to the company's financial report. One growth factor was the increase in the number of customers, as a result of the expansion of petrol station stores throughout Romania. "After we moved into a new, 7,000 square-metre warehouse, we were able to streamline our logistics and implement a new storage management system," explains Narcis Mihai, country manager of Lekkerland Romania. The company plans to introduce its own products onto the local market this year, which will be manufactured at Lekkerland's foreign plants. At present, the company distributes around 2,800 FMCG products, both food and non-food. "Our main target for 2008 is to boost the number of sales representatives in order to secure new clients in the Bucharest region and increase the range of services provided to existing clients," adds Narcis Mihai. The company is a part of the German group Lekkerland, which specialises in the distribution of FMCG in convenience stores (petrol stations - photo, catering companies etc). The largest FMCG distributors in Romania also include Interbrands Marketing & Distribution, Top Brands Distribution, Aquila Group and Macromex. The top 10 distributors of consumer goods registered a cumulated business worth around two billion euros last year, with an average sales growth rate of around 20% in RON against 2006. The estimated growth rate for the overall FMCG sector was almost identical and stood at 19.5%, as forecast by market research company MEMRB.
