Lower inflation boosts mutual fund yields

22.06.2004, 00:00 10

Mutual funds provided a 1.3% yield on average in real terms last month, against a rate of inflation of just 0.3%, one of the lowest levels since 1990. The funds in the last 12 months have hardly managed to outrun inflation by a significant margin, yielding an average growth of 12.6%, according to the National Union of Collective Investment Bodies (UNOPC). This compares to a consumer price increase of 12.3% during the same period. The recent good performance has been largely due to the growth of those shares listed on the Stock Exchange, as well as the market interest rates, which have remained at high levels in comparison to inflation. The number of funds that provided good yields because of investments on the capital market is higher than it was last year. Last year only Intercapital (managed by Certinvest) and Napoca, (managed by Globinvest) provided better yields because of their stock market investments. However, this year they were joined by BCR Dinamic (run by Banca Comerciala Romana's specialised firm) and by Integro (run by Quadrant Asset Management). ZF
