Foreign airlines Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Swiss, whichwere integrated two years ago into the German group, carried onemillion passengers last year on the Romanian market, 10% more thanin the preceding year.
"This market was key in the investment strategy of Lufthansa in thepast few years and will continue to be an important market in thefuture, as well. This year we expect a 10% rise in the number ofpassengers carried," said German-born Stefan Versemann, 50, generalmanager of the group in charge of Romania and the Republic ofMoldova. According to the latest data available, the overallairline market (traditional and low-cost) amounted to 9 millionpassengers two years ago.
The three foreign airlines, which will operate 147 flights a weekto Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf, Vienna and Zurich, are planningto consolidate their presence on the Romanian market this year byboosting capacity and flight frequency starting with the summerflights schedule.
The biggest contributor to the overall number of passengersrecorded by the Lufthansa group was the Lufthansa company, whichcarried 615,000 people last year.
