Air operator Malev, one of the leading operators on the Romanian market, saw a 30% increase in revenues in the first six months of the year against the same time last year, as a result of the large number of flights to and from Romania. "The number of flights from Bucharest to Budapest doubled compared with the first half of 2006 and reached 4 flights daily, while the number of flights operated from Targu-Mures increased from three flights a week in 2006, to seven flights a week this year," said Madalina Cretu, country commercial manager for the company in Romania and Moldova. Malev posted an 11.5 million-euro turnover in Romania, so, if the 30% growth rate is maintained until the end of the year, the company's revenues on the domestic market will reach 15 million euros, according to ZF estimates. The Hungarian operator Malev operates 62 return flights a week from Romania (including those operated in partnership) and covers five Romanian cities. The company has return flights to Budapest from Bucharest, Timisoara, Constanta, Cluj-Napoca, and since the start of 2006, Targu-Mures.
