Marius Ghenea (photo), one of the founders of Flamingo retailer of electronics, electrical home appliances and IT&C, plans to open his first Testa Rossa-branded coffee shop in Liberty Center shopping complex, located in the Trafic Greu area of Bucharest. Investments in this first shop amount to 250,000 euros, while Ghenea plans to open 8 coffee shops by 2011. Marius Ghenea got the master franchise contract for the coffee shop chain for Romania through Italian Coffee Concept company. Most Testa Rossa coffee shops to be opened domestically will have an area of 80-120 square metres, with investments to range between 150,000 and 250,000 euros. Most of the new coffee shops will be opened in Bucharest and the rest in major cities such as Timisoara, Cluj and Constanta. "Total investments for the first network development period will top 1.5m euros," Ghenea says. At this moment, the market is dominated by domestic single-location coffee shops, which suggests it is still undeveloped. This was also the reason why Ghenea decided to invest in a franchise on this market, a tendency that will be felt, he says, over the medium and long term. Ghenea, who does not rule out entering other related segments, as well, is the majority shareholder in the company introducing Testa Rossa in Romania.
