Restaurants and events last year accounted for 40% of the business in the five-star JW Marriott. The hotel''s turnover for 2005 was estimated at 42 million euros. Revenue from the restaurant department and from the events department as a result reached almost 17 million euros. "The Food&Beverage market accounted for 40% of the revenue, which is unusual for a hotel," Ioan Maties, manager of the Food & Beverage division told ZF. (The Food&Beverage division coordinates the running of restaurants, coffee shops, and events). He says that hotels usually derive 5 to 30% of revenue from this segment. "Some 70% of the clients in the three restaurants are not hotel guests, with our units servicing between 1,700 and 2,000 people daily," explained Maties. Apart from restaurants, the Food&Beverage department also includes two Marriott coffee shops. The hotel also owns 12 halls that host events such as conferences, weddings and baptisms. Marriott last year derived 6 million euros from the office market, according to company sources. ZF
