"I guarantee that I will be a president determined to change the course of Romania's history," Theodor Melescanu stated on Saturday, at ApR (Alliance for Romania) Extraordinary Convention, where he described himself as "a family man, honest and loyal," who succeeded in everything he decided to do.

Before the ApR leader announced that he would run for president, the participants in Convention were projected a film showing the life of Theodor Melescanu.

Thus, they could see Theodor at the age of 8, and found out with emotion how his father died when he was only 14. The mayor from his natal village, but also his daughter, Marina, were among the persons that wished to congratulate the candidate.

In front of a weeping Melescanu, Marina explained how he managed to keep the family united, how much she loved him for this, and forecast that, once elected president, his father would do the same for the people.

"The other candidates have qualities as well, but ours has the most qualities, and the first of them is that he comes from Ardeal," ApR vice-president Gheorghe Tinca stated.

After saying a determined "yes" to the invitation to run for presidency, Melescanu pledged that, as soon as he is elected president, "his basic principle" will be the citizens' welfare and that he would urge the Government and Parliament to permanently take into consideration people's needs.
