Metro Cash & Carry, the largest player in Romanian food retail, posted sales worth over 800 million euros on the local market in the first half of the year, according to ZF estimates, based on the 6 billion-euro turnover reported by the company in Eastern Europe, and on the 13% contribution of the Romanian market to this figure. According to data published by German group Metro in its half-year report, sales of the cash & carry division went up 14.4% in the first half in Eastern Europe, to 6 billion euros. Last year, the local division of Metro Cash & Carry posted a 1.59 billion-euro turnover, up 11.3% against the previous year. This amounted to a 13.5% contribution of Romanian sales to the 11 billion-euro sales derived on the Eastern European market.
