Napochim profit halves

20.12.2004, 00:00 10

Plastics maker Napochim Cluj-Napoca saw its first nine-month profit halve due to the increase in the price of the petroleum derivates, the raw materials it uses, caused by the rise in the petroleum prices. Napochim made 53,000 euro net profit, down approximately 50% from the same time last year, while the turnover fell to 1 million euros from 1.16 million euros. "The petroleum shortage caused a significant increase in the prices of the most important raw materials, which led to higher expenses and lower profits, as finished product prices were not changed," the corporate report says. The price of the PVC, one of the raw materials Napochim uses in its manufacturing process, surged by more than 60% from last year, while prices of polyethylene and polypropylene went up 30% on the average. Napochim became importer of certain product ranges from Serbia, Hungary, Poland and Israel this year. Some of these products could be assimilated in the manufacturing process depending on the demand on the market. ZF
