15.03.2001, 00:00 11

On March 15, the National Bank of Romania (NBR) will issue a gold coin worth 5,000 lei, celebrating 125 years since the sculptor Constantin Brancusi was born, reads an NBR press release sent to Mediafax.

The 5,000 lei coin has the following features: 31.103 grammes weight, 35 millimetres diameter, smooth edge, year of issue: 2001. The coin's obverse features The Endless Column. The coin's graphics split it into two unequal sides: on the left side, in the centre, there is Romania's coat of arms.

The issuing year 2001 is inscribed beneath. On the Column's right side there is the coin's nominal value. The coin's reverse features the bust of the sculptor Constantin Brancusi. The years that mark the anniversary event, "1876-2001," are etched around the bust.

The facsimile signature of the artist completes the bust's left area. The coin's circulation aimed at sale in Romania and abroad is 500 pieces.
