Elmec Romania, the distributor of the Nike brand on the local market, reported a turnover worth 41.7 million euros (137.8 million RON) last year, up by around 40% compared with 2006, when it reported turnover worth 25.4 million euros (89.2 million RON), amid network expansion. At the end of last year, the company operated 39 stores, of which 23 stores opened under the Nike brand, 9 Famous Brands stores (which includes two Famous Brands Gallery stores, which cover around 2,600 square metres in total), 2 Converse stores, 2 Calvin Klein Jeans units and 3 Miss Sixty stores. "Last year, we opened seven stores, which include two Famous Brands Gallery stores, located in the Bucuresti Mall and Plaza Romania shopping centres in Bucharest. They are operated under a shop-in-shop agreement, and retail our biggest brands," said George Cocu, finance controller of Elmec Romania. According to the company, the other five store openings, of which two Nike stores, while the others include the company's other brands, took place in Iulius Mall in Cluj and in the city of Targu Mures.
