Nike importer, 20m-euro turnover in Romania and Bulgaria

Elmec company, the domestic importer of Nike products, for the first half of this year reported a turnover worth 20.4m euros in Romania and Bulgaria, up 63% from the same period in 2006, according to the preliminary financial data provided by the Greek group. Last year, Elmec Romania registered a turnover worth almost 90m RON (25.5m euros), 60% higher against 2005, while its profit increased by around 17 times, to more than 5m RON, according to the data reported by the Romanian unit. At the same time, the Greek group announced in its annual report that sales on the Romanian market in 2006 reached 33.9m euros, double the level reached in 2005. In Romania, Elmec is developing a shopping complex on the site of an old building on Magheru Boulevard in Bucharest. It is also participating in the construction of a shopping centre in Craiova, with an area of 122,000 square metres, through Microcom DOI Company. The company operates 130 stores in Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.
