Obi follows Real to retail park in Cluj

17.03.2008, 19:04 11

German DIY retailer Obi, a division of the Tengelmann group, has acquired a plot of land in the industrial area of Cluj-Napoca, where a Real hypermarket has recently been opened, sources on the Cluj market say. The store in Cluj could be one of the first operated by the German retailer on the domestic market, after company representatives previously confirmed that the first two stores would open in Bucharest, and in a city in Western Romania, but did not reveal a location. The German retailer operates in 11 European countries and generates sales worth 5.8 billion euros in more than 500 stores. "The decision to come in Romania is an important step towards consolidating our leading position on the regional market. We believe the Romanian market is offering significant growth potential, and we also want to become the leader here too, and will make extensive investments in the store network over the coming years," Johanna Meessen, head of corporate communications & PR department told ZF Transilvania.
