Over ten hotels to open on Romanian market in 2009

07.01.2009, 17:46 13

2009 will not match last year's "performance" in terms of the number of new hotels to open in Bucharest, with only three major launches being announced so far. The new facilities in the Capital will be five-star Grand Hotel Continental on Calea Victoriei, four-star Golden Tulip Palladium and Royale, the latter developed by Lithuania-based Europa Group. This year will see the opening of 12 to 15 hotels on the Romanian market, following investments worth around 150 million euros, which will mainly be attracted by provincial cities, according to a ZF analysis that only includes projects announced so far.
While 2008 saw 2,000 rooms added to the capacity of the Bucharest hotel market, after Radisson SAS entered the market, Rin Grand Hotel became fully operational and Ramada Plaza was opened, only 300 new rooms are expected to be added to the market this year. The most important openings this year will take place in the provinces, where the big international chains have announced they will affiliate new hotels.
